ÐÞ³µÂÛ̳é College Professor Publishes Papers on Invasive Species

Congratulations to Dr. Lawrence Roberge. Lawrence has published two papers in Biosafety. The papers warn of potential biological weapons, in the form of invasive (or non-indigenous) species. "The United States Department of Agriculture defines invasive species as non-native to an ecosystem and likely to cause environmental, health or economic harm."

"In the hands of a rogue nation, terrorists, or an individual bent on destruction, an invasive species could have an affect similar to better known potential biological weapons such as smallpox or anthrax," says Roberge. Not typically what you picture as WMDs, Roberge describes how organisms such as pigs, ticks and blueberry plants can be employed by terrorists, and ways the US can prevent this from happening.
